Our take
The later of Captain Cook's two big dinner cruises sails from King Street Wharf 1 for about two hours, on MV Sydney 2000. It includes canapés and a four-course dinner on the upper deck, passing under the Harbour Bridge to Circular Quay and the floodlit Opera House. There is live music at weekends. Check in at the office opposite Wharf 1 at least 30 minutes before.
On our dinner cruises page it shares the early cruise's strengths and weaknesses. It has a big review record, a choice of mains, wheelchair access to the main deck and a children's menu. Drinks are extra, tables are allocated and window seats are an upgrade. It rates about 4.2. The later start means the harbour is dark and the city lit for the whole trip, which suits midsummer when the sun sets after 8pm. During Vivid Sydney in late May and June, expect a full boat.
Good for
- City lights rather than sunset
- Groups with children or a wheelchair user
Think twice if
- You want drinks included. Compare Journey Beyond
- A quieter, smaller boat matters more than the menu
