Our take
Maroubra is the quieter alternative to Bondi on our surf lessons page. The lesson is two hours at 7 Marine Parade, with a cap of six students per coach, the smallest group of any lesson we compare. Soft boards, winter wetsuits and sunscreen are included. Bring your own swimmers and a towel; there is no towel hire or storage for valuables.
Maroubra is about 10 km south of the CBD, a bus ride rather than a train, and quieter than Bondi on a weekend. Arrive 20 minutes early. The listing's age band shows adults, but its notes say group lessons are for 12 and up, with a concession rate for 12 to 17s and students, and children under 12 go to private lessons, so check before booking for a teenager. Lessons run in all weather if the surf is safe; if it is too big, the school offers another time or a refund. It rates around 4.7, but from a small record of about 26 reviews.
