Our take
This is the private lesson we list on our surf lessons page. It is two hours at Corrimal Beach in Wollongong, about 85 km south of Sydney, with one coach for up to two surfers. Board and wetsuit hire and somewhere to store valuables are included. The operator says it is the only Surfing Australia licensed surf academy in the Illawarra. You meet at its equipment trailer in the car park at the end of Lake Parade, in front of Corrimal Beach Surf Club, 10 minutes before the start.
It is priced per group. For a first-timer we would skip it: it has 1 review so far, and the trip south takes a big part of the day, while Maroubra's group of 6 already gets close attention in the city. It makes more sense if you are staying in Wollongong or driving down the coast. It refunds in full up to 24 hours before.
