Our take
Fantasea's zoo combo pairs Taronga Zoo entry with its harbour ferries, and we list it beside Captain Cook's version on our harbour cruises page. The difference is the ferry: Fantasea's ticket uses its hop-on hop-off route, which also stops at Darling Harbour, Circular Quay, Watsons Bay and Manly, so you can add a beach or a seafood lunch to the day. The commentary was developed with Tribal Warrior and the Australian Maritime Museum, and self-service tea and coffee are on board.
Collect your zoo ticket before you go: at the Fantasea sales office at Circular Quay Wharf 6, or at Pier 26 in Darling Harbour. The listing says the zoo is about 12 minutes from the city by ferry. Go in the morning, because the zoo closes at 4:30pm in winter and 5pm the rest of the year. The boats are wheelchair accessible. It rates around 4.2 from about 80 reviews, below the Captain Cook combo.
Good for
- Families who want the zoo plus Watsons Bay or Manly in one day
- Visitors starting from Darling Harbour
Think twice if
- You only want the zoo and back. The public ferry is cheaper
- An afternoon start. The zoo closes early in winter
