Our take
This is our pick on the Sydney harbour cruises page for anyone doing only one sightseeing cruise. It has the most reviews of any sightseeing cruise we compare, a live guide rather than app commentary, and it leaves from the Eastern Pontoon on the Opera House side of Circular Quay. It runs about 90 minutes, morning or afternoon.
The route takes in the Opera House, the Botanic Garden, the Harbour Bridge and Luna Park, then the eastern bays, with tea and coffee and a restroom on board. One reviewer noted there is no food on the morning sailing, so eat first. Be at the pontoon 20 minutes early: it is a small floating wharf, separate from the ferry wharves, and easy to miss. The honest alternative is the public ferry to Manly, which covers many of the same views for a normal fare. What this adds is the commentary and a route built around the landmarks.
Good for
- A first look at the harbour with someone explaining it
- A short trip that leaves the rest of the day free
Think twice if
- You only want the views. Take the Manly ferry
- You want food or a sunset. See the lunch, dinner and sunset cruises
