Our take

This is the shorter version of Fantasea's whale watching discovery cruise: two hours instead of 2.5, on the Ocean Dreaming II, a large boat with three viewing decks, indoor seating and live commentary. The listing says it now departs from Campbells Cove. Drinks are for sale on board. It is wheelchair accessible, with accessible facilities, which not every whale boat offers.

It is the one we would skip on our whale watching page. It rates around 4.0, the same operator runs the 2.5-hour version, and the half hour you lose is time spent searching outside the Heads, which is often when the whales turn up. The boat carries up to 190 people, so the rail gets busy when a whale surfaces. If the shorter time is what fits your day, it still covers the basics; just book knowing what you give up. If you get motion sickness, the listing suggests seeing a doctor before you travel.

Good for

  • A tight schedule that only allows two hours
  • Wheelchair users who want a large, accessible boat

Think twice if

  • You have time for the 2.5-hour version, which gives more searching time
  • You want a small group
