Our take

This is a scuba dive inside SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium at Darling Harbour, not a trip to the sea. No diving experience is needed. The 2.5 hours start with an introduction and a 90-minute training session, then 30 minutes underwater in the 1.5 million litre oceanarium with grey nurse sharks of 1 to 3 metres, stingrays and schools of fish, without a cage. Wetsuit, scuba gear, aquarium entry and a certificate are included. It rates close to 5.

On our snorkelling in Sydney page it is the one we would skip if snorkelling is what you came for, because it is an aquarium tank. For anyone who wants to be in the water with large sharks safely, nothing else here does that. Every diver must be 14 or over and complete a medical questionnaire before booking, and it asks for moderate fitness. It is non-refundable. Bring swimmers, a towel and enclosed shoes, and arrive at the aquarium entry 15 minutes before your session.

Good for

  • A first taste of scuba with sharks, in calm water
  • A wet-weather day in the city

Think twice if

  • You want wild marine life. Snorkel Manly or Clovelly instead
  • Your plans might change. It cannot be refunded

The tour, stop by stop

  1. Our colony of Grey Nurse Sharks range in size from 1 to 3 metres, and when you dive with us, you get to enter their domain, without cages! In the wild, Grey Nurse Shark populations are protected and in serious decline. Captive populations and breeding programs are very important in learning more about these amazing creatures. Dive in with Murdoch & Freckles, the Grey Nurse Sharks who were both born at SEA LIFE attractions in Australia, and have now found a home here at SEA LIFE Sydney. On your dive you’ll also meet other Sydney local marine life including sea turtles, huge stingrays (and we mean HUGE), Port Jackson Sharks, Wobbegong Sharks and hundreds of amazing sea creatures! About 120 min.
