Our take
This is our pick on the snorkelling in Sydney page for anyone who has already snorkelled Manly. It runs in a different reserve, the Bronte-Coogee Aquatic Reserve, over 90 minutes with 8 people at most, and our page lists two stops, Clovelly Beach and Little Bay. The guide picks the route around recent marine activity and takes photos of you and what you see, which come with the tour. It rates around 4.9 from about 70 reviews.
Clovelly has a resident blue groper the council calls Bluey. The requirements are stricter than Manly's: you need to swim 100 metres and float unaided for 60 minutes, and the listing points weaker swimmers to the operator's private tours. Mask, snorkel, fins, flotation support and weight belts are supplied. Wetsuit rental is listed as not included, so ask before a winter booking; the water is cold from May to October. Bring your own swimwear. It meets at the free car park in front of the Clovelly Surf Life Saving Club. Little Bay is further south, so ask the operator how the group gets between the two.
Good for
- Confident swimmers who want photos of their snorkel
- A second snorkel after Manly
Think twice if
- Weak swimmers. The swim and float test is strict
- A winter booking if you do not want to pay for a wetsuit
