Our take
This is the private charter on our whale watching page: a whole boat for a family or group of up to 8, for about 2.5 hours from the Campbells Cove floating pontoon. The listing describes a 600hp sports cruiser that is out of the harbour within 15 minutes, with a local skipper and guide who gets as close as allowed to whales, dolphins and fur seals. Bottled water and Bluetooth music are supplied. It is priced per group, far above a seat on a shared trip.
The listing description says whale sightings are guaranteed, but it gives no terms, so ask the operator what that means before you book. The record is tiny, just two reviews, so this is a bet on the operator rather than a proven trip. The boat is open, so wear warm layers in winter and spring, and soft-soled, non-marking shoes with no heels. There is no swimming on this tour. Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before departure; our page lists a 9am start.
Good for
- A family or group of 8 who want their own boat
- Getting out to the whales fast without a crowd
Think twice if
- Couples or solo travellers on a budget
- You want a long review record
