Our take

This is the Aboriginal culture walk on our Sydney walking tours page, led by a local Aboriginal guide and starting with a traditional Welcome Smoking Ceremony. You choose one of three places, each outside the city centre. Ku-ring-gai Chase in the north has ancient whale rock engravings. La Perouse in the east is the 1788 first contact site, with a museum visit and a coastal walk. Royal National Park in the south has rock art and midden sites. It is rated 5.0, from about 17 reviews.

Timing depends on the option: the listing gives 2 hours at La Perouse and 3 hours at the other two, and a short van ride between sites is included. City pickup from Christ Church St Laurence near Central is available if you select that option; otherwise you meet at the starting point, such as the La Perouse Museum forecourt. Bring a reusable water bottle, as fresh water is supplied but food is not. The listing asks for moderate fitness and says it is not suited to anyone with mobility issues.

Good for
