Our take

This is the highest-rated private tour on our Blue Mountains tours page, close to 5 from about 120 reviews. A guide collects you from any Sydney hotel, the cruise terminal or the airport and builds a 9-hour day around what you want: as active or as relaxed as you like. It is priced per group, so it costs several times a seat on a small group tour and makes most sense split across a family or group.

The sample day includes a quiet first lookout, the Three Sisters with the Aboriginal creation story, Pulpit Rock or Govetts Leap above the Grose Valley with optional short walks, and lunch at a secluded historic spot. Featherdale and Scenic World are optional at your own cost, and so is a ferry back to Circular Quay instead of the drive. Lunch itself is not included, nor are alcoholic drinks. WiFi and bottled water are. What a private tour adds is control: staying at a lookout until the cloud lifts.

Good for

  • Families and small groups who want their own pace
  • Cruise passengers who need pickup from the terminal

Think twice if

  • Solo travellers or couples on a budget
  • You want everything included. Most extras are at your cost
